Environmental factors might explain longevity

(Blue Zones)
Few locations in the world where people live longer and experience less chronic disease than any other place (Robertson, 2017).
According to Buettner, there are five places in the world described as a Blue Zone.
  1. Loma Linda, CA (USA)
  2. Nicoya Peninsula (Costa Rica)
  3. Okinawa (Japan)
  4. Ogliastra, Sardinia (Italy)
  5. Icaria (Greece)
The study shows that only five locations where people's life rate is between 90 to 100 years old. There might be other places on earth where people live for 90+, but it is unidentified in this study.
A team of different specialties observed the lifestyle of the residents of the Blue Zone to determine what would lead to longevity. They identify "9" characteristics or what is called the "Power 9."
  1. Move naturally: The people live longer, do not depend on machine. Instead, they constantly move neutrally and do everything manually.
  2. Purpose: Identifying the purpose and reason of life expect to extend life up to 7 years (Buettner, 2016)
  3. Downshift. Few minutes of spiritual wellness every day in routine activities.
  4. "Plant slant. Beans, including fava, black, soy, and lentils, are the cornerstone of most centenarian diets. Meat—mostly pork—is eaten on average only 5 times per month. Serving sizes are 3 to 4 oz, about the size of a deck of cards" (Buettner, 2016).
  5. 80% Rule. People in the Blue zone tend to eat 80% full stomach. Also, they eat small portion of food late afternoon or early evening, then. they stop eating the rest of the day.
  6. Wine. Drinking 1 to 2 glasses of wine a day.
  7. Belong. To be belong to faith-based community.
  8. Loved ones first. Family first.
  9. Right tribe. People grow up in a society support healthy behaviors.

In another research, other environmental factors might explain longevity
Air quality - Hygiene - Safe nutritious food - Free pollution environment - Physical exercise activities - Crime rate.
The environmental factors impact the overall health. The sun effects on environment differently from one place to another. For example, exposure to the sun for a long time can cause wrinkles and skin cancer. Also, the more pollution the air carries, the more disease will rise among people.
